Movie Review – Extraction (2020)

★★★☆☆

Extraction 2020In this action-packed thriller, major star Chris Hemsworth plays a mercenary by the name of Tyler Rake. With a name like that, this hired gun was born to kill and it definitely shows through the progress of the movie. Rake is hired to retrieve the teenage son of the incarcerated and biggest drug lord in India, Ovi Mahajan Sr (Pankaj Tripathi). Ovi Jr was to be kept eyes on by protector Saju (Randeep Hooda) who has now been threatened by his boss due to his failure and so he is seen multiple times trying to snatch Ovi Jr away from Rake.

Although Hemsworth’s character is seen to be ruthless and emotionally constipated, his soft side is given a glimpse as he refuses to abandon Ovi Jr once he finds out that the kid is expendable and was told to leave him behind. Saju is seen through the movie, having his own bad day as he is constantly being exposed to Amir’s army of vicious and trained killers and Rake’s tenacious refusal to give up Ovi Jr.

Extraction 2020

As “Extraction” progresses, gun battles and bloody fights make up the latter half of the movie as Ovi tries to escape the carnage alive. I often wonder how I would react to being swallowed up in a world of such immense violence, it certainly is something to think about while watching this movie!
