What is the UNCTAD's ranking of the most prepared countries to adopt frontier technologies?

According to data released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the United States, Sweden, Singapore, Switzerland, and the Netherlands are the five most prepared countries to use, adopt, or adapt to frontier technologies, which will be crucial to the transition to green technologies.

With the help of the five key indicators—ICT, Skills, Industry, Research and Development, and Finance—166 countries were ranked on their readiness to begin utilising frontier technologies. The ultimate score on the following map is determined by adding the ranks of each indicator. For instance, the amount was 49 when the U.S. was ranked second in R&D, eleventh in ICT, eighteenth in skills, sixteenth in industry, and second in finance.

Guinea, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and South Sudan are included last on the list. Each of these five nations came in at or near the bottom in all five categories.

There is a definite difference between high income countries and low income countries, as the accompanying chart illustrates. The regions with the lowest levels of technological readiness are Latin America, the Caribbean, and sub-Saharan Africa, which puts them at the greatest danger of missing out on current technological prospects.

Despite its ability to manufacture and innovate cutting-edge technology, China placed lower than one may have anticipated, taking 35th place, due to differences in internet coverage and broadband speed between its urban and rural areas. Brazil, India, and South Africa were the other BRICS group members in that order, coming in at 40, 46, and 56 respectively.

However, a few Asian nations, including Vietnam (45th), the Philippines (57th), and India (55th), performed better than anticipated. India ranks 67 places better than expected when comparing its actual index ranking to the predicted rankings based on per capita income. This is mostly because to greater infrastructure investment, improved technical skills, and a favourable business climate, according to UNCTAD analysts.
